BMW parts shortage affects plants in Germany, China, S. Africa
Luxury carmaker BMW is set to extend production halts in Germany to China and South Africa. It’s grappling with a shortage of steering parts. Production at the Shenyang and Rosslyn factories will likely stop for a day, while the plant in Leipzig, Germany, is expected to be partially shut down. Another facility in Munich was affected last week as suppliers have been unable to make deliveries. Spokesperson Michael Rebstock says the company will decide on further production stoppages as needed. He describes the likely financial damage as manageable but not yet quantifiable — and has said a task force is working to resolve the issue.
